Autumn In the East Coast
For East Coast gaming resorts, the changing of the seasons means a whole new wave of promotions and opportunities for players
From what we’re seeing on the East Coast, the weather may have cooled off but the promotions and events are just as scorching-hot as they were in mid-July. Perhaps even more so!
The autumn season is officially upon us. For those of us who live in Las Vegas, as much as we loved this summer’s incredible promotions, thrilling concerts and ubiquitous discounts, it’s a relief to have the sweltering heat subside. Then again, in Vegas, the only sign that seasons have changed is a slight difference in temperature. On the East Coast, the arrival of fall means a stunningly beautiful transformation of the landscape.
It also means the casinos roll out their highly anticipated fall promotions—and from what we’re seeing on the East Coast, the weather may have cooled off but the promotions and events are just as scorching-hot as they were in mid-July. Perhaps even more so! So grab your camera and your slot club card, and take advantage of these shows, casino promotions and giveaways before Old Man Winter steps in.
Caesars Windsor
WSOP Circuit Event
Don’t miss out on one this year’s first WSOP Circuit events. This long sought-after WSOP Tournament kicks off on Sunday, November 13at 4:00 p.m. in the Poker Room. The buy-in is $550—but we’re talking about a $50,000 prize pool and the opportunity to score a seat to the 2011 Main Event in Las Vegas, where the top prize is many millions of dollars and the chance to go down in history as a WSOP champ.
Players will begin this No Limit Texas Hold’em tournament with $10,000 in tournament chips. Blinds begin at $25-$50 and will increase every 30 minutes. Be sure to make your reservations now, as there will be a maximum of 100 players for each tournament. For more information call the Poker Room at 1-800-991-7777 ext.22969.
“Nothing To Hide” Tournament
In addition to offering the WSOP Circuit Event, Caesars Windsor’s poker room has a special tournament available for you to play in every day from Sunday, November 14 to Saturday, November 28. This poker tournament, called “Nothing To Hide,” has a $200,000 prize pool for a $850 buy-in (based on 260 players participating). You can stop by the poker room on your next visit—or surf over to their website—for complete rules and instructions on how to get in on this action.
Bret Michaels
Bret Michaels rocketed to rock n’ roll stardom in the 1980s as the lead singer of the hair-metal band Poison, and gained wider recognition in recent years the way everyone does it nowadays—by starring in his own reality TV show, “Rock Of Love,” and then appearing on the latest season of Donald Trump’s show “The Apprentice” (which he won!).
Michaels’ foray into reality television doesn’t discount the fact that he’s been a terrific live performer for decades, having released a number of successful solo albums in between Poison tours. On Saturday night, November 13, he takes the stage at The Colosseum at Caesars Windsor. Tickets are only $25 for an evening of high-energy rock n’ roll which is sure to feature some of his biggest hits, which include “Every Rose Has Its Thorn,” “Nothing But A Good Time,” and “Talk Dirty To Me.”
Mohegan Sun
Poker is the Game
This gorgeous Connecticut casino is surrounded by some of the finest autumn scenery in the country—but if you’re a poker player, you’ll probably want to skip the sight-seeing and head inside for the Fall Showdown Poker Tournament, which features $250,000 and $100,000 jackpots. According to Director of Poker Bruce Dixon, “This newly structured tournament will add a new element that is not only affordable, but will allow players to buy back into the tournament.” Beginning November 14, a $235 buy-in will allow poker players to compete for a share of $100,000, with several chances to re-buy. The big event concludes on November 21, with the final table paying a cool quarter million.

The festival’s signature event, the Grand Tasting, will feature a walk-around food and wine tasting, demonstrations, and book signings.
Several restaurants will host celebrity chef dinners with special guests, among them CraftSteak (with chef/owner Tom Colicchio and Hearth’s Marco Canora); Alta Strada (with Anne Burrell, Stella’s Evan Deluty, Pigalle’s Marc Orfaly, and Dante’s Dante de Magistris); and Paragon (with Alex Guarnaschelli).
Wine lovers on a limited budget will surely find it interesting when Yankee magazine food editor Annie Copps conducts a seminar titled “What Price Will You Pay…For Great Wine?” Guests will enjoy a “blind tasting” of six wines at different price points. Also on the beverage front, Anheuser-Busch brewmaster Matt Morganthaler will host “Beer: An Expedition of Taste,” featuring a variety of ales and lagers.
Other festival highlights will include a wine seminar on the best Italian wines with food pairings, led by Joe Bastianich; a Bon Bon Boogie Bash featuring dessert, wines, spirits, and dancing; an epicurean luncheon at David Burke Prime, featuring David Burke himself along with guest chefs Susur Lee (Shang/Top Chef Masters) and Casey Thompson (Top Chef All-Stars); and Sunday brunches at Cedars, Alta Strada, and David Burke Prime.

This resort complex includes The Tropicana Showroom, an IMAX Theatre, and The Quarter—a destination unto itself, featuring a wide range of restaurants, shopping and nightlife—so whatever your interests are, you’ll want to be kept in the loop about their upcoming contests, discounts and events. Trump Taj Mahal
Friday, November 26 is Black Friday—the hottest shopping day of the year. Our advice? Skip the overcrowded malls and hit the Taj Mahal to cover all of your holiday shopping requirements. The casino is giving away five shopping sprees every hour—that’s one every 12 minutes! Listen for your name to be called for a chance to select one of the wrapped boxes under their holiday display. Each box contains a shopping spree worth $500-$5,000.
In the meantime, you can score some quick cash courtesy of the Trop’s “Money Machine Madness” promotion. If you’re selected to step inside the “Money Machine,” you’ll have 60 seconds to grab as much flying cash as you can. Whatever you catch, you keep.
Earn your entry by playing any slot or table game (including poker) from 6 a.m.–9 p.m. on November 20. Every hour, Taj will select eight winners to enter the Money Machine (located in the main concourse) and snag a fistful of dollars at 10 p.m.
(Editor’s note: If any of our readers makes it into “The Machine,” we’d love for you to send us a photo. We’ll feature your win in this magazine and on our website, www.casinocenter.com.)
The United States Poker Championship
The Taj’s Poker Room is also gearing up for some serious action. The 2010 United States Poker Championship (which will be televised at a later date) is returning for another series of tournaments from November 1 through 22. You can register for this tournament in advance by visiting https://ptseats.com, or by asking at the Trump Taj Mahal Poker Room. (Incidentally, the Trump Taj Mahal Poker Room is the home of the largest “bad beat” jackpot ever hit in any United States casino: $673,115.)
Mount Airy Casino Resort
Mount Airy Casino Resort, located in the beautiful Pocono Mountains, is one of the new Pennsylvania casinos the industry has been buzzing about. Unlike its competitors across the state, Mount Airy is the only PA casino to have a full-service hotel along with its sparkling casino.
The scenery that surrounds Mount Airy is spectacular—and so is the entertainment lineup next month. Gin Blossoms will perform at the resort’s Gypsies Nightclub on November 13, followed by the legendary Chubby Checker on November 27. Check out their website for additional shows and casino promotions.
Fallsview Casino Resort
The Fallsview Casino Resort, based in famous Niagara Falls, Canada, is quite possibly one of the most beautiful casino hotels in the country—with views of one of the world’s greatest natural wonders from your guest room. What could be more romantic?
The casino is loads of fun, too. This facility is loaded with more than 3,000 slot and video poker machines in denominations ranging from a penny to $100, in addition to 142 gaming tables. Best of all, you can jump on two tournaments next month.
Falls For Cash Slot Tournament
On Wednesday, November 3, Fallsview will give away a total of $60,000 in cash prizes. Half that amount is earmarked for a slot tournament. For a $250 entry fee you can play two thrilling tournament sessions. You’ll also receive a free welcome gift and two meal vouchers to be used at participating restaurants. To register, call Fallsview at 1-888-325-5788.
Fallsview Blackjack 21 Tournament
Fallsview Casino will fork over a grand prize of $25,000 at its Fallsview Blackjack 21 Tournament on Wednesday, November 10. Again, the entry fee is $250. You’ll start by playing in a qualifying session, which will hopefully send you to the semi-final and championship rounds (where the big money is won).
If you consider yourself an “ace” at the blackjack tables, you won’t want to miss this chance to prove your skills—and take home a nice chunk of change that will easily cover your Christmas shopping.
And For the Holiday Season…
Fallsview Casino Resort is embracing the holiday season with the popular Broadway-style production of “Spirit of Christmas: A Magical Celebration.” The internationally-renowned show features a talented cast of singers and dancers, glamorous costumes, and brilliant choreography. Audiences will recognize more than two dozen timeless Christmas carols performed in a variety of
musical styles, from rock-and-roll and gospel to traditional holiday-style. This production runs from November 19 to December 5. You can purchase tickets at the Fallsview Casino Box Office, or by calling Ticketmaster at 1-877-833-3110 or by visiting www.ticketmaster.ca.
