HOW TO STOP DROWNING
Tips to maneuver yourself into a possibly better position to maybe experience some positive results
By Frank Scoblete
We have all been there. Yes, we have. Nothing is going right.
You try this machine, that machine. You try machines that were hot for other players and they turn ice cold for you. You try machines that have been ice cold figuring they must warm up. Right? Wrong. They get colder if that is even possible. Ice cold.
If this were a swimming contest, someone just tied a heavy slot machine to your neck and down you go into the deep-end waters of the pool. Doesn’t seem anything you do can help you. This is one abysmal trip. Is there anything you can do to reverse what’s happening to you?
Yes and no.
It is possible that the machines will stay cold for you. Quite possible.
All around you players will be shouting with joy as they win bundles of money. The woman next to you just won a big jackpot. She hugs you. “I’m so happy!” she shouts.
Her husband comes over to tell you—and everyone—that he just won a huge amount on that machine “over there.” He points. Oh, man, that was the machine you played just a little while ago. It was ice cold.
You smile as you sink slowly to the bottom of the deep waters of the pool. “Congratulations,” you gurgled before you sank.
CAN YOU FIX THE UNFIXABLE?
You want to come back from this drowning but is that possible? You’d have to win one of those huge jackpots to win back what you lost. In fact, you might have to win several huge jackpots to do that.
What should you do aside from leave Lady Luck’s gambling establishment? True, you can dry off and go have something to eat. You could go to your room for a nap if you are staying in the casino hotel. You can go home if this is just a day trip. All these options are open for you.
What do you want to do?
YOU SAY: I haven’t been to a casino in a long time. I didn’t come down here to go home. I need some help. Aren’t you around to give the players help? So, help me!
SOME THINGS YOU CAN DO
I wish I had magic powers and I could snap my fingers (snap!) and you’d win millions on the next machine on your very first decision. Everyone will flock around you, patting your back, and praising your luck. Even that woman’s husband who won on your former machine!
That rarely happens, big winnings such as that, but you can try to maneuver yourself into a possibly better position to maybe experience some positive results. Will what I am telling you actually reverse bad luck?
It might. It might not.
Okay, let us say you are a dollar player and you like to play machines that are somewhat traditional and you play full coin, meaning three dollars per decision. Or let us say that you are a dollar player and you like to play any old or new machine. You don’t mind letting it all hang out and you sometimes bet a lot more per decision than three dollars.
Here’s your help: Both players must only play the more or less traditional machines.
Now, the radical part. Both of our players are still going to play $1 machines but they are only going to play one coin, meaning one decision at a time. If the machine is cold at least the losses will be reduced remarkedly.
You do not increase how much you put in the machine until you know you are starting to come back up from the deep end of the pool. Then you might (might) go to two coins per decision, as long as the upward trend continues.
Machines NOT to Play
Stay away from all the massive progressive jackpot machines. You have to play full coin on those and the house edges seem to be much, much higher on such machines. You have to play machines that give you a shot right now, right away. Those “I dream of a changed life” machines are out of the question.
Now, here is a truly radical idea and you have to have real discipline to pull this off. (Get a hammer and…uh, no, no, I was just dreaming there. Sorry.)
GOING UP
You have started a comeback. Now you should try a few two-coin (credit) plays. If you find that you are still holding your own, then keep making two-coin (credit) wagers.
If things are still going in your direction, then try those three-coin bets again—just a few—and see what happens. Your good luck or semi-good luck might continue.
HELP? MAYBE NOT
Slot machines are fickle creatures. You could be getting creamed and then you hit a jackpot or two and you are right back in the game. Even when things are blue and the water is swirling over your head, there is always the chance that a jackpot or two can bring you back to the land of the living.
Still there is a time to just call it quits and walk away Do not lose all your bankroll for a trip in one horrible session.
That’s the best help I can give you. Walking away is not defeat; it’s just rest for your next fight with the machines!
All the best in and out of the casinos.
